Charity event in aid of women in Nepal - Thornton Hough, Wirral

Hello folks!

Charity event by SoroptimistsI have organised an afternoon tea event to raise funds to help rebuild the lives of women and girls in Nepal after the two devastating earthquakes there.

It is an afternoon tea at Thornton Hall Hotel in Thornton Hough on 13 March  2016.  1 for 1:30.  Music by St Mary's College.  Tickets price £20 from our treasurer Veronica on 01928 573658 or myself on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  £5 per ticket goes to the appeal.

I can bore you to death with the details of the appeal but basically we have enough money to fund 3 projects which are off the starting blocks now:

•  training for 100 teachers and sponsor 14 girls in the Lower Solu Khumbu (Everest) region with vocational training aimed at creating long-term livelihood opportunities and economic independence. This training would be made available for girls at a high school level, either in school or who have dropped out, providing them skills in practical trades.

• bursaries for 20 Thulipokhari girls for 2 years to attend school. Room & board, tuition, books, supplies and uniforms will all be paid. A micro lending program will be available to them when they finish, allowing them to start a small business.

• computer literacy classes to Tharu women and girls.  We will purchase 20 computers and in the first 2 years train 80 women and 10 teachers to be able to use computers in their income generation. The training will continue over 5 years with a final goal of training 200 women.

• more projects will come on-stream as the money is raised.

If you just fancy going for a nice tea with pleasant music and a quiz this is for you!

There is also a raffle with fantastic prizes - TV, case of fine wine, Pamper Hamper, £30 Marks and Spencer's vouchers and at least 4 more.  Tickets £1 from me to be drawn on 13 March.

Can I apologise if you are not the slightest bit interested in this - I am just telling people I know.  Thanks for your patience.
