Vintage Radio

Do you fancy being involved in helping set up one of the Wirrals newest broadcast radio in 2010? If so, we are looking for your help.

Would you like to be involved in setting up and running one of Wirral’s newest broadcast radio stations?

Vintage Radio broadcast for 9 days in February 2009 and won an award for doing so. We enjoyed it so much we did it again in November 2009, this time for over 3 weeks! Since April 2010 we have been broadcasting newly commissioned but pre-recorded programmes on the Internet and we still need your help whether its technical or to create and present new programmes.

We’re looking for presenters, programme makers and technical support. When we broadcast live (as opposed to using pre-recorded material) on the radio we will need station managers for our next radio broadcasting slot which hopefuly will be sometime later in 2010 or early 2011 depending on funding. When we start live broadcasting on the Internet we will also need station managers. Vintage Radio is aimed at the mature listener, but there’s no age bar for team members.

If you’ve got some spare time, you’re aged 18 years or over and you’d like to learn new skills, meet new people and have a great time then get in touch. We’re based at the YMCA in Whetstone Lane so you can reach us easily by car or by public transport.

We can’t afford to pay you but we will train you! We’re recruiting now so we can build up our programming and presenting teams, add to our programme bank and we need to add to our support staff (both station manager and technical).

Presenters/Programme makers

You’ll help to make programmes on a wide range of issues…and you’ll present them too. We’re looking to feature drama, poetry, chat shows, music shows, current affairs, health programmes and lots more. So whatever your interest we’d love to hear about it (and so would our listeners). There’s no bar on programme content other than it should be aimed at the over 50's. We have access to recording studios and experts who can help you make your programmes. We’ll train you and support you but if you already have some experience in broadcast radio so much the better.

Technical Team

You’ll be one of the back room boys (and girls) who provide support for the studio whilst on air. You’ll be operating the studio mixing desk for presenters who want to concentrate on their programmes and monitoring the technical functions of the studio so all goes smoothly. You’ll be checking that equipment functions correctly, solving and fixing problems that may crop up on air. It would be great if you were already familiar with IT systems, and even better if you knew about sound and mixing equipment and had experience in broadcast radio. We’ll haven't set the exact daily running times but we need technical support all the times we are live on air.

Station Managers

You’ll ensure the smooth running of the station whilst on air. You’ll deal with emails, man the phones, meet and greet guests and make sure they get to the studio on time, deal with any issues that aren't covered by the Technical Team and generally make sure the station runs smoothly. We need station managers when we do our live broadcasts from just before we go live to just after station closedown.
